The Emerald Coast

First beach trip of 2021! I can’t believe it! Considering we didn’t go anywhere last year this trip was much needed. We managed to get away without the kiddos (thanks to the grandparents) and hang out at our favorite vacation spot…Destin, FL! We love staying in this part of Florida because its so beautiful and such fun place to be. It isn’t called the Emerald Coast for nothing. There are gorgeous white, sandy beaches accompanied by the most beautiful water. The best part is the food. Y’all it is so good!

Where to stay

Typically when we go to the beach I book through Hotels.comor if we’re taking a big trip with friends or family and the kids we book a place through Air B & B.Since it was just the two of us this time, we just stayed at a very nice La Quinta Inn & Suites in Miramar.

Even though it has been over a year hotels are still taking Covid precautions. There were no cleaning services during our stay and no complimentary, self serve continental breakfast. They did have a “grab and go” breakfast option though.

Because there was not a continental breakfast, we grabbed Waffle House and Chick-fil-a the first two mornings Our las morning we went to our favorite breakfast spot in Destin…The Donut Hole! More on that in minute.

The Best Food in Destin

Captain Daves on the Gulf

One of our favorite places to eat is Captain Dave’s on the Gulf. I mean look at that view! The restaurant is literally in the sand. It’s gorgeous at sunset.

The food at Captain Dave’s is amazing. They have the best steaks, burgers, and of course fresh gulf seafood! I ordered Parmesan stuffed shrimp with a twice baked potato and wild rice and Tim ordered a burger.

Dewey Destin’s

Our top favorite place is Dewey Destin’s.Dewey’s is a local favorite and I can see why. It’s right on the harbor which makes for great dinner views. Yet again, the food is incredible. If you’re a gumbo fan, its a must try and the seafood is top notch.

Dewey’s has a wide variety menu. Everything from a catch of the day menu to hamburgers and steaks. And ya’ll they have some good drinks too. The Dock Rocker is my personal favorite!

McGuire’s Irish Pub

If you’re not much of a seafood fan McGuire’sis the place to go! They have the best steaks and burgers you will ever eat. Serious, they’re that good! They also have a pizza puband sushi restaurant. When visiting McGuire’s, the atmosphere is so fun. They even have their own brewery and wine cellar. And of course you can visit their gift shop and bring home a nice souvenir.

The Donut Hole

Ok, I saved the Best for last! The Donut Hole is a must. It is our favorite breakfast spot in Destin and it’s a local favorite! The Donut hole has several locations along the coast. Not only are the donuts our fave, but they also have the most amazing breakfast! I highly recommend any of the omlets/egg plates and their pancakes. They’re seriously the size of the plate! And of course on your way out, grab a donut for the road and a cute t-shirt!

Shopping & Sight Seeing

Seaside, Fl

Alright, y’all have got to visit seaside! It’s one of my favorite places to visit when in Florida. Here’s why…it’s simply the cutest, most picturesque beach town. Seaside has beautiful beach homes, great restaurants (and food trucks), the sweetest little small businesses and of course BEAUTIFUL BEACHES. While in seaside you have to visit ” The Seaside Style” stores. They have a store with home decor, stationary and apparel, a kids store and a baby and toddler store. Seaside also has the cutest little book store, a record shop, and so many more merchants. There is even a farmers market on Saturdays and Sundays.

After shopping around and eating you can visit Dawson’s Yogurt & Fudgeworks. The hubs and I LOVE getting fudge from here. It’s absolutely amazing! They have everything from fudge to milkshakes. I reccomend the sea salt caramel or the classic fudge!

Destin Commons

Ok, last recommendation….promise! Aside from the outlets, my favorite place to shop is Destin Commons. It’s like a mini outlet mall. There are so many amazing stores to shop and delicious restaurants to choose from. One of my favorite stores to visit is the Southern Living store. Y’all, that store is beautiful! Southern living has everything you could possibly need for entertaining (indoors and out), baby gifts, and of course all things home decor. They even carry one of my favorite brands…Happy Everything. Check them out here.

You can also find food mixes, pantry staples, table decor, recipe books, and beauty products
